About me

Hi! My name is Jon, and I am a longtime writer, photographer, translator, teacher and sustainability expert.

I’ve worked as a freelancer for over a decade, helping companies sharpen their communications to better reach their target audience. With a background in architecture, housing policy and journalism, I recently acquired an M.Sc. in Resource Efficiency in Architecture and Planning with a focus on water resource management in order to better address the actions we need to take to adapt to a rapidly changing planet.

After years on the road, six and a half years living in Germany, and our current home in New Mexico, I’ve gained a unique perspective on the built environment and the importance it has in our lives. What makes some cities feel especially alive? How does the built environment influence society, and vice versa?

A harmony must be found between society, the environment and the economy – the pillars of sustainable development.

I believe we can create cities that bring communities together. Cities that are resource efficient and dense enough to be vibrant and active, without losing access to nature and the wild. We might, however, need to shift our priorities from an ever-increasing standard of living, to a quality of life.

This website is a portfolio of my past work in writing, journalism, academia, photography and architecture, as well as a blog with regularly updated articles on the topics that interest me. If you have any questions, would like to work with me, or simply want to comment – I’d love to start a conversation.

Cheers,

Jon
